FESTIVITIES

The festivities schedule in Antequera around the year has its most important events on the following date:

 CARNIVAL.- A real explosion of joy and humour on the previous days to the Holy Week. Funny bands contests, masks and fancy dressed people parades.

 HOLY WEEK.- The procession of the religious images in Antequera is characteristic because of the antiquity and beauty of its materials,
statuesque by the famous sculptors Pablo de Rojas (16th. century), José de Mora (17th. century), Andrés de Carvajal, Miguel Márquez García (18th. century), etc., set going through streets and squares with its artistic thrones visiting the most typical corners of the town.

 SPRING FAIR- Keeps on the 31st May through the 3rd.June.

 ROYAL AUGUST FAIRS.- Is the most important festivity in Antequera, and it keeps on the 21st August.
In the old Bull Ring (built in 1848), there are bull fights with the most famous Spanish matadors. Cavalcades, shows, fair-stalls and many rides and amusements.

 8th OF SEPTEMBER.- Festivity of Our Lady of the Remedy, patron saint of the town.
Verbena on the night before and procession of the holy image on the saint's day.
