CORTIJO MIRAFLORES MUSEUM
The ancient Cortijo Miraflores, bought by the City Council in 1990 was openned last Friday 29th of June as a new museum.
This building was built in 1704 and was in those years known as Cortijo del Prado de
San Francisco.

It has many peculiar
decorative details, such as the two coat of arms above the main door, and six engraved stones
showing, Saint
John the Baptist, Saint Sebastian, Saint Bartholomew, Saint Catherine of Siena and another one
which seems to be Saint Benedict, its 18th. century wooden frame ceiling is of mudejar style and
there is also a extraodinary marbel fountain dated about 1711.
The sole museum in the whole country dovoted to the olive oil and its manufacture, the olives will be ground in the museum mill, which remains in perfect condition, and bottled under the denomination of origin "Oil from Marbella".
The spectacularity of the new museum is culminated with its splendid gardens, recently prized as
one of the best in the area and the only one having the scarce "Cycas revolutas" palm trees.
The archaelogical part of the museum shows a paleochistian shrine built during the 8th. to 10th. century.
