Set on a 10.000 m2 sloping site just above the N-340, between Marbella and San Pedro, the mosque is surrounded by splendid gardens whose beauty
inspires spiritual peace and reflection. The complex includes a house for
its Iman, and a magnificent library.
The 834 m2 mosque with a capacity for over 800 worshippers, was designed
by Cordoban architect Juan Mora. It comprises a 600 m2 prayer area for
men, with the "Mihra" and "Minbar" set in the centre.
On each side are rooms reserved to women, linked by staircases to a special
door for their use and to the ablutions area.
The roof culminates in a dome in the centre of the mosque, with a 12
metre diameter. The building has 24 stained glass windows which bathe the
interior in soft multicolored light.
A 500 kg. bronze chandelier with 130 bulbs, an antiquity dating from
the 2nd century of the Hegira (10th century A.D.) hangs from the centre
of the ceiling.
The library covers 187 m2, and houses 30,000 volumes, mainly devoted
to Koranic studies.

Built on the initiative of H.R.H. Prince Salman of Saudi Arabia, this mosque is a faithful reflection of modern Andalusian architecture, inspired by the culture of previous eras.
