Located in the Mondragon
Palace, this museum brings together the historic, artistic, ethnographic
and documentary heritage of Ronda in an ideal site.
The museum is an ideal centre from which to develop and promote all aspects of Ronda's culture, of which its exhibits give an overall view; it also plays a key role in the education of the many children living in Ronda and its surrounding area.
The museum is organized into an exhibition area, a research
area, a storage area and service area:
The exhibition area comprises several rooms. The Ronda museum,
with
three sections, contains a valuable range of objects representative of
the city and its surrounding area.
The historical section reflects the wealth, variety and significance of Ronda's archaeological and historical heritage from all periods. A suite of rooms exhibits items from cave dwellings, megalithic sites, the Roman city of Acinipo, Roman and Moorish burial sites, and from recent centuries of urban development.
The ethnographic section present a broad range of objects from
every day life, presented in an especially attractive and accessible way.
The five rooms
in this section contain exhibits relating to cork manufacture, distillery,
traditional cheese production, local cuisine and traditional sausage making,
saddlery, and thus constitute a full review of the processes of production,
transformation and consumption within the traditional economy.
The third section is devoted to the natural environment of Ronda and its surrounding territory, in particular to the present nature reserves, Parque Natural Sierra de la Nieves, Parque Natural los Alcornocales, as well as the Grazalema reserve.
