After the Second Worl War, the British P.G.A. had no money to send the team to the competition and it almost disappear, but an Oregon enterprise sponsored the competition and the Ryder Cup went on.
The arguments arised during the previous edition about the grooves on the clubs sides appeared again and the British players spent half their time filing their clubs.
Due to the lack of food in the United Kingdom during the post-war, the American brought 600 steaks, twelve pieces of ribs, twelve hams and twelve boxes of bacon.

This is the last time the American team shows its overwhelming supremacy in the Ryder Cup.
The old rivals Jacklin and Nicklaus are now captains of their respective teams. Jacklin convince Ballesteros to join the team again after his previous entry.
After 28 years the European team wins. Manuel Piņero gets 4 points; Ballesteros 3,5.
For the first time Europe beats U.S.A. at home. Four points to Ballesteros.
After this draw, Europe keeps the cup. This is the second draw in 28 editions.

The trophy will remain in Europe until 1999, when it will be disputed again in Boston, Mass. U.S.A..
